Last Tuesday WonderRoot Studio had its first session with Jukebox The Ghost, who are from Washington D.C., and The XYZ Affair, from Brooklyn, NY. The two bands were touring around the U.S. and played a show with Atlanta's Morning State at The Earl the night before this. This was the first time I got to see the studio completed, and it looks really slick.
The XYZ Affair decided to do a cover of The Temptations' "Just My Imagination" for their session, and it sounded awesome. These guys' vocal harmonizations are simply stunning. I sat down with them to do a quick interview after the session:
I really appreciated their approach to the concept of "dance rock". They seemed like a really nice group of dudes who are very serious and genuine with their musicianship. Their self-described "Arena rock by music school kids" is both fun and thoroughly enjoyable. Be sure to pick up their self released full-length album from last year, A Few More Published Studies. Here's their WonderRoot Session:

Jukebox The Ghost choose to do a newer song of theirs called "Mistletoe." They were actually finishing up the lyrics to the song in studio with us. I sat down with them also for a fun filled interview about Cheesesteaks and "Ben Folds the dog":
Jukebox the Ghost was a cool group of guys to hang out with in the studio. I just picked up their debut full-length, Let Live And Let Ghosts, and it is great. Our studio engineer extraordinaire, Brandon Montgomery, noted how Ben Thornewill's voice has this Beatles/Elton John quality that is really soulful. I can't wait until they come back through town again. Here's the track they cut for us:
